English

The use of virtual social networks can create or intens jealousy in romantic relationships. People may feel insecure and experience negative comparisons and jealousy by observing their partner's interactions with others in the virtual space. It is said that individuals with borderline personality traits, who experience difficulties in emotional, behavioral, cognitive areas, and especially in interpersonal relationships, may have higher levels of jealousy compared to healthy individuals. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between borderline personality traits and the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dimensions of jealousy in romantic relationships among social media users. The statistical population consisted of social media users residing in Kurdistan province. The sample included 384 social media users who were selected through a non-random method and responded to the shortened Borderline Personality Disorder Scale (BPDSL) and the Multidimensional Jealousy Scale (MJS). Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistical methods (mean, standard deviation, correlation, and regression) in SPSS software version 23. The findings of the research indicate that there is a significant positive relationship between borderline personality traits and the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dimensions of jealousy in romantic relationships. The results of this study can assist family counselors in considering the features of borderline personality disorder as a factor in predicting jealousy in romantic relationships.
