This study develops a conceptual model in which "Family social capital" moderates the mechanism of the effect of "Social media abuse" on "adolescent academic performance" through (non)mediators of social well-being. That is, both the direct relationship and the mediated relationship between "Social media abuse" and "Academic performance" are conditioned by "Family social capital". A survey was conducted by distributing 980 paper-based questionnaires among tenth, and eleventh grade adolescents in Tehran in 2022. The results showed that the more severe the symptoms of social media abuse, the more the students' academic performance drops and a wide range of psychological abnormalities are created in the students. Also, the more the students' family social capital was, the less they abused social media, and the family, by focusing on their well-being, reduces the harmful effect of social media abuse on academic performance more and better. Keywords: Family social capital; Social well-being; Social ill-being; Academic performance; Teenagers; Abuse of social media; Instagram.
