Abstract
Virtual social networking sites are a new generation of web sites. That youth and teenagers are more inclined to membership in social networks because of the spirit of diversity, creativity, tendency to communicate with others, curiosity and the interest in having different lives. Social networks are like a double sword, if they are not used properly, they will cause the most harm to users. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between the use of social networks and mental health of female secondary school students. The statistical population of this research includes all female students of Tehran Second Grade Secondary School who are studying in the academic year of 2016-17. The research sample consisted of 384 people who were selected by Multi-stage cluster sampling. For data collection, a researcher-made questionnaire on the use of social networks and general health of Goldberg was used. The obtained data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and Linear regression was analyzed and the results showed that there was a significant relationship between using social networks and mental health (physical problems, anxiety, social function disorder and depression. There is a significant relationship between female students of secondary school. Therefore, the high use of social networks causes physical laziness, low mobility and reduced relationships with others in the real world, resulting in social isolation and depression. In general, it is very important to familiarize young people with physical and psychological hazards and, as a result, self-control and self-safety in them, for the optimal use of new technologies.
