English

The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of sports content on social media on increasing physical activity in Generation Z, with physical comparison serving as a mediating factor. This was an applied, descriptive-survey study. The sample consisted of 179 Generation Z members who had active user accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube social networks. Data was collected through questionnaires using convenience sampling from these individuals. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was used for data analysis. The findings showed that social media sports content influenced increased physical activity in this generation both directly and indirectly through the mediating role of physical comparison. As a result, by adopting a balanced approach and raising awareness about the unrealistic nature of much of this content, the motivational power of social media can be harnessed to encourage young people toward a more active lifestyle.
